After Effect...

After the DELETE brouhaha, I have already moved on.  I let out the steam that’s been building up from past experiences which made me scrutinize thoroughly those people who had been browsing my multiply pages.  Everything has been forgiven already, although it would take a long time when it comes to trusting some people from now on.

Apparently, my last post created awareness about customary dealings with contacts here in multiply.  It is a reflection of prevailing conditions in dealing with members within your network, the friendship that has gone sour, the resentment created, and the termination of what could have been a fruitful acquaintance.  X marks the spot, bull’s eye, hit the mark - call it what you want – the message I wanted to convey to all has been acknowledged by some of those who have seen and understand it.  I should have been gloating for all the encouragement and the congratulatory messages that have piled up in the comments, but I am not.

I noticed one thing in my page, aside from the confusion and the arguments within the thread replies.  I have been visited by the Customer Service Account of Multiply.  Call it paranoia or something, but as far as I have known, the Customer Service Account does not browse a particular page, unless somebody with malicious intent has reported it.  Earlier today, I discarded that notion since I think they just might want to check out how one such ordinary page from one ordinary guy will get about 400 + visits and 250 + comments, in just about half a day.  Maybe they just wanted to check out the instant internet traffic the page has created, or perhaps not.

It could have been that my title is of definite concern to them, since the formal intonation does attract attention immediately.  Or it could have been something else, some probability that I could not possibly accept, perhaps some retribution in my blog’s case, from people who may think that they were the object of the tirade that has been written beforehand.

I don’t know. You decide.

A Message to ALL Multipliers

Pakiusap lang naman.

Add us not because you like our posts, but because you like us.   Add us not because our posts makes you happy but because we make you happy.  Add us not because we are connected to your friend but because we are your friend.

Delete us because we did you harm.  Delete us because we have some ultra sensitive right-on-the-edge of pornography type of posts which are not for young people's eyes.  Delete us because we posts gross images sometimes.  Delete us because treated you like fools.  Or better yet delete us because we deserve it.

But if you deleted some contacts because they were in close contact with the person you hated the most, that is a sign of immaturity.  Or perhaps immature is a mild word.  Try bitter.  Or maybe even bitchiness, because perhaps you are bitching about the fact that we are friends with almost everybody here, including the person you despise.  Whatever arguments both of you had, we believe it has nothing to do with us, so why detach us from your list?

We greatly appreciate that we have been part of your circle of friends during this past years, or months, or days, but we suspect that we are just part of your "numbers' game".   An addition to flaunting your statistics of ever growing list of contacts.  But please, spare us of your bickering with other account holders who in some ways related to us only by affinity.  Ok we admit there must be a little attraction involved but we don't whine about how our contact acts in front of our PC monitor.  It is the characteristic, which is unique in every person, that binds us and helps endure the friendship.

We didn't add you because you looked hot in your bikini.  We added you because you're YOU!  Because you are unique, just like the rest of us.  We added you because we see something interesting in you, whether you're wearing Gucci or just plain galing Quiapo,  whether you're eating in Shangrila or on the outskirts of Ayala Avenue munching on squid balls, or whether you're partying in Embassy or just the common Sayawan sa Plaza.  The fact that we added you means a lot to us, and we value the interaction that has been exchanged all throughout.  We do not post items and comments to purely make fun, part of it is to break the barrier that usually surrounds those feeling unfamiliar and having added new acquaintances in their list.

So if you probably hate someone from our list, rest assured that we have nothing to do with it.  We are a collection of various people with various looks, and more importantly, with various attitudes.  For sure there will be somebody whose actions we do not like, and there will be people who do not like what we do, but we co-exist for the sake of camaraderie.  We sit down, drink, party, and talk like civilized people, yet we do not stab others in the back.  We do not succumb to peer pressures, especially those who dictates who should be in our friends' list.  We are what we are, and we offer friendship, nothing else.  So if you don't like the people we have to interact on a daily basis, delete us from your contacts.  Please do so, and don't be sorry for it.  We totally understand.  We don't like hidden agendas.  It's not even our loss.  Surely we will miss whatever interesting posts you have, but do remember we also provide entertainment, usable information, and unequaled amount of promotion without additional cost, and reciprocated with greater reward, that is having introduced to a lot of people how cool you would be in their list.  And we still have most of our friends beside us, and that's all that matters in the end.

So, who lost a lot in the end? We are certain it's not us.

Post Script:

This is a letter in general, meaning to everyone and even those we treat with distrust, and not about a particular person.  Although we regret the actions that were done prior and even after this blog, we stand dedicated to everything that we had written here, including the personal injustice committed to us.  We imply that everybody should take this post literally and not in any way use in distorting it for personal vendetta.  A blog is a personal manifestation of emotions in any form, and we gladly will accept reactions and comments as long as our statement will not be taken out of context.

NAGCHACHAT HABANG NASA OPIS! (kasama talaga ung exclamation point, para bang andun ung emphasis of defiance about prevailing company policies regarding chatting)

Uy, mukhang pwede ako dito… sige nga at makapagmasid…

Bago tayo naging Filipino...

History of the archipelago before the Spaniards

The tradition of Philippine history writing, which the Spanish chroniclers originated and which American and Filipino writers followed later, had the Spaniards, more specifically, Ferdinand Magellan, discover the Philippines.  The obvious implication is that the Philippines, or more accurately, the archipelago later called the Philippines, was unknown to all.  However, archaeological records and narratives written by Chinese officials, including those written by Muslim scholars, point to the early relations of the Philippines with the neighboring countries.  But these records, written or floating, are not sufficiently numerous to form a continuous and meaningful narrative of Philippine history before the coming of the Spaniards.  Even so, the records are in themselves clear proofs of the existence of a civilization which had an oriental texture.

Peopling of the Philippines

Up to the early 1970s, it had been assumed that the Philippines was a part of mainland China.  It was theorized that during the Pleistocene or Ice Age, the waters surrounding what is now the Philippines fell about 156 feet below the present levels.  As a result, a vast area of land was exposed and became a sort of land bridges to the mainland of Asia.  In February 1976, however, this theory of the “land bridges” to Asia was disputed by Dr. Fritjof Voss, a German scientist who studied geology of the Philippines.  According to Dr. Voss, THE PHILIPPINES WAS NEVER A PART OF THE MAINLAND OF ASIA but that it rose from the bottom of the sea and “continues to rise as the thin Pacific crust moves below it.”  As proof that the Philippines was never a part of the Asian mainland, Dr. Voss points to the fact that when scientific studies were done in 1964-67 on the thickness of the earth’s crust it was found out that the 35 kilometer thick crust underneath China does not extend to the Philippines.  Hence the latter could not have been a part or “land bridge” to the mainland of Asia.  On the other hand, the Philippines lies “along the great earth faults extending to deep undersea trenches” and through violent earthquakes what is now the Philippines rose to the surface of the sea.

Whatever the cause of the Philippines coming to the surface of the sea, it is certain that ancient man came to settle in it.  The widely accepted theory that the Negritos were the aborigines of the Philippines is now severely criticized in anthropologically literate quarters.  The young Filipino anthropologist, F. Landa Jocano of the University of the Philippines, disputes Professor H. Otley Beyer’s assumption that the Malays migrated to the Philippines and now constitute the largest portion of the population.  It was also Beyer who theorized that the present Filipinos had a Malayan culture.  Jocano, on the other hand, believes that fossil evidences of ancient men show that they came not only to the Philippines but to New Guinea, Java, Borneo, and Australia, and that there is no way of telling whether or not they were Negritos.  But whether they were Negritos or not is not of great moment, what concerns us is that there is positive proof that man was in the Philippines at least as early as 21,000 or 22,000 years ago.  The discovery in a Tabon cave in Palawan in 1962 of a skull cap and a portion of a jaw, presumed to be those of a human being, shows conclusively that MAN CAME EARLIER TO THE PHILIPPINES THAN TO THE MALAY PENINSULA, where, according to the old theory, the Filipinos came from.  As to the present Filipinos, Indonesians, and Malays of Malaysia, Jocano maintains that they are the “end results of both the long process of evolution and the later… movements of people.  They stand co-equal as ethnic group, without anyone being the dominant group, racially or culturally.  Culturally, it is likewise erroneous to state that Filipino culture is Malay in orientation.  Even our historical experiences and social organization differ from those of the people identified as Malays.”  The differences, according to Jocano, are due to the differences in their responses to their environment.  On the other hand, the similarities found among them are due to the adjustment to their environment.

Satirical Pinoy 101 - da Commissioner, EDSA , Libingan, & one Lucky Bitch

Introduction:

I watch the news but I have always stayed away from politics.  I have always hated indulging in political discussion way back when I was young, when I could always hear opinions from customers of my Lolo’s barber shop where I usually hang out since I was given the task by my Tita to watch out for that cunning barber who cheats us of hard earned pesos and use it for his womanizing ways. Yes I know, I am not totally stupid [some parts are still missing], I know what happens when the shop closes.  Aside from the barber shop, the store next door is busy with tambays, Ginebra gin, water as chaser, and if it feels lucky, there’s pulutan to grab and eat periodically, but most of the time it’s politics.

Politics warms the blood during cold mornings.  I just have to turn on the TV early at dawn and watch how today’s political events are shaping up.  Things have never been this amusing since 1986.  Yes, I already existed in 1986, and the year before that, and Ninoy’s alleged assassination, and years before that.  Basically I have gathered information from the common tao’s perspective, which truly are amazing in their sense of grasping the situation and sometimes make it argumentative which is the most interesting part.  So I figured, I am making some comments in the world of free speech and democracy, satirically speaking.

and so it goes...

Former COMELEC Chair Benjamin Abalos is so into news these days.  From the automated poll bid that went sour, the 2004 Hello Garci election event, Joey de Venecia statements, the famous “may 200 ka dito” from Secretary Neri, the Lozada revelations, and lastly I heard he was into burJer. I know, it’s burger and not burJer, I misspelled but I was merely reacting to pronunciations.  By the way I think the administration made a mistake in appointing him as Chairman of the COMELEC.  They should have appointed him as Commissioner instead.  Get it? Commissioner…

On Monday they will be celebrating the People Power Anniversary.  I remember the radios before, Cardinal Sin said go to EDSA and protect Ramos and Enrile.  I got a text from a friend yesterday and it said, go to EDSA, there’s midnight sale.  People Power is a miscoined term.  It should have been Bloodless Revolution of EDSA.  It was not through the collective effort of people and nuns and priest and Ramos and Enrile in human chains that made it one of unusual stories of hope in our history.  It has always been the military’s decision on whom to support.  It happened in 86, it happened in 2001, and it will not happen again.  This time the situation has changed, the critics don’t have the military’s support.  Period.  No revolution has ever succeeded without the support of the military.

-------------------- *** --------------------

Early this morning I saw the program at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.  What event was that? Something about heroes, I forgot since I was busy getting coffee since it was cold.  I wonder how many heroes were buried there.  And are they all heroes?  Can the OFW’s be buried there?  After all, they are the new heroes.  Or is that only for the rich and famous?  Somebody suggested that it should be renamed Libingan ng mga Bayawak.  I wonder who they are planning to bury there in the future…

-------------------- *** --------------------

The “Lucky Bitch” joke has already been immortalized around the globe.  I guess Neri’s evil comment was much nicer after all.  I’d love to see how it happened.  Anyways Gov. Joey Salceda has already apologized about the comment intended as a joke but unfortunately, it was interpreted out of context. MalacaƱang just brushed it aside.  Gov. Salceda is the one lucky this time…

-------------------- *** --------------------

Ink’s over.  Maybe next time I’ll be able to make more comments. Maybe.

Goodbye...

It has been 7 long years…

We have been together through thick or thin, rain or shine…

God knows how far we’ve come since we’ve been together…

And now, I’m sorry it has come to an end…

All I can say is goodbye…

I will always remember the way you have endured and carried me throughout the years…

You have been the stronger one…

I have always asked for your support so that I can walk with dignity…

And now, you’re not there, I will be missing you…

I just hope that…

First Love Never Dies

isang araw tinanong ni bunso kay nanay ang tungkol sa pag-ibig:

ANAK: "Inay, totoo po ba yung kasabihang - FIRST LOVE NEVER DIES?"

NANAY: "Oo naman anak... tignan mo ang tatay mo... buhay pa ang ANIMAL!!!"

Home - There and Back Again...

Saturday, September 15, 2007

I am packed. I brought my biggest bag and hopped the first bus going to Manila. I arrived around an hour and a half at Cubao to catch another ride to Batangas. Luckily I caught the bus just as it leaves the terminal for another long journey south of Manila. I was pretty much excited, I mean I am not pretty but I was really excited to go back home after 9 months. The last time I was there was a few days after new year, and I don't have any idea what to expect when I arrive.

The journey took another 2 hours. Traffic was slow, with bottlenecks near Magallanes, Bicutan, Alabang and almost all freeway exits at the South Super Highway. I wasn't expecting that I'd get stuck in traffic because I wasn't expecting major construction along the Highway. I was so confident that I would traverse the SLEX with the same enjoyment as I am experiencing while traveling at NLEX. I wasn't enjoying the bus ride anymore.

I arrived at Tanauan City minutes past four in the afternoon. This former sleepy town sure changed a lot during the past decade. but still I remembered the way to the market, where I am again hopping a ride, jeepney ride this time, one last ride before I reach the place where summer-filled happy memories were spent most of the time.

I saw that damn Korean who was trying to build a Spa near the volcano crater, as I was glancing the surroundings during my ride. He was feeling comfortable in his Benz. I just wish somebody would throw him inside the sulfur-rich crater lake of Taal so that he would understand how dangerous it is out there. Building a Spa near the volcano, with the town mayor as a cohort, shame on them.

A lot of changes has happened at my hometown. Although I grew up in Manila but I consider Talisay my hometown since I have always been fond of the place. One, it's near a lake and the world famous Taal Volcano. Two, I have most of my close relatives near me. And Three, I can spend most of my time near the lake.

The house was still the same, the kitchen is still being renovated, but most of it are in the final stages. It looks like a kitchen anymore, since I remember when I was young we used wood and charcoal to cook. and I definitely love to look at the tissue holder whenever I am doing my stuff in the CR, although it looked rusty right now. I am sure if it is used frequently or just plain dirty most of the time.

The house looks good, with only my uncle taking care of it. I wish I could stay there on a permanent basis. Breakfast consisted of hot coffee at the terrace with my dear uncle talking about what's happening around. After spending a night and gathering my things, the next day I prepared to go back to Pampanga. My 20 kilo backpack looks like I was dragging my self walking back to the main road to catch a ride, but the reality was I am really dragging my feet, my heart wants to stay but my body wants to leave.

How can I leave this place I consider paradise?
